An INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI is a professional capable of adequately providing / selling sake using the relevant language to the relevant language speaking countries or speakers.
1）Qualification Tests in Foreign Languages and the Qualities We Seek
All qualification tests for INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI are implemented in languages other than Japanese.
Though in principle the contents of the test are in accordance to the qualification test for KIKISAKE-SHI implemented by the Sake Service Institute (SSI), not only are there questions about the reality of the sake market in the relevant countries but also qualities required for becoming a Kikisake-shi are assessed from an international viewpoint in light of the cultures and customs differing from those of Japan.
2）Nurturing Professionals in Each Language
Qualification tests for INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI are implemented separately in each language.
The certification expresses in which language the certified person can conduct business as a Kikisake-shi; e.g., when the examinee has taken the test in English, he/she is certified as INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI (Ver. ENGLISH) or if the examinee has taken the test in Korean, he/she is certified as INTERNATIONAL KIKISAKE-SHI (Ver. KOREA).
What an “International Kikisake-shi” can do
An International Kikisake-shi can properly and accurately advise, supply, and sell sake to consumers around the world using a language other than Japanese.
The requirements and characteristics of “International Kikisake-shi“
Insightfulness: The skill to see through consumer’s needs.
Love for hospitality: Hospitality towards customers.
Knowledge of the product’s characteristics: Thorough knowledge of sake as well as other food and beverages.
Understanding the true meaning of eating and drinking: The knowledge of the effects food and beverages have on the body.
Expertise in sake: International Kikisake-shi should have more knowledge than consumers regarding sake.
Skills and techniques: Sake tasting skills and service techniques.
Ability to make proposals: The ability to make plans and proposals for consumers using a language other than Japanese with the above qualities.
Active “International Kikisake-shi”
There are currently 2,400 (September, 2018) certified International Kikisake-shi around the world.

- Service jobs or cooks at restaurants around the world.
- Sales person at liquor stores or alcohol area of large stores around the world.
- Service jobs or cooks at restaurants in Japan where many foreign customers visit.
- Sales person at liquor stores or alcohol area of large stores in Japan where many foreign customers visit.
Certified International Kikisake-shi will be given a certification and and certification badge.
*The language that was chosen at the exam will be written on the certification.
Only people who have met the criteria that SSI INT’L has determined can be certified “International Kikisake-shi”, and his/her skills and qualities must be proven in a language other than Japanese. There are two ways to apply for this certification.
